Yondr Group scholarship opens doors for aspiring students at the University of Toronto

Yondr Group has announced the launch of The Yondr Group Scholarship, a generous initiative pledging $25,000 to support successful applicants studying STEM-related undergraduate degrees at the University of Toronto. Successful applicants will receive an admission award of up to $5,000, which will help support diversity and increase participation in STEM subjects.

Born from the idea of giving back to the communities Yondr works in, the scholarship will support students studying Computer Science, Rotman Commerce, Life Sciences, and Mathematical and Physical Sciences. The first cohort of students will start their studies as soon as September 2025 – the same year that Yondr broke ground on its 27MW data center development in Toronto.

The University of Toronto stood out due to its highly regarded STEM courses. Highlighted by Forbes as one of the top 10 artificial intelligence and data science master’s courses, the university also ranked among the top 30 for all subjects in the Times Higher Education. With a strong track record of developing scholarships, bursaries and grants for underrepresented groups, this scholarship will make a significant contribution to marginalised students’ university fees each year.

Working in collaboration with the University of Toronto, the Yondr Foundation and Yondr’s Sustainability team helped to create and launch the programme. Inspired by Yondr’s ambition of being ‘great to the world and the communities around us’, the scholarship will equip students to thrive in the rapidly evolving data center sector.

“We are deeply grateful for Yondr’s generous support in establishing the Yondr Group Scholarship, which reflects our shared commitment to fostering diversity and empowering the next generation of leaders in STEM,” commented Professor Melanie Woodin; Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto. “This contribution will provide invaluable opportunities for deserving students as they embark on their academic journey at Canada’s top university.”

“A diverse workforce with the skills our industry needs is vital to the future of the data center sector,” says Ross McConnell, Yondr’s VP of Energy and Sustainability. “By introducing The Yondr Group Scholarship, we’ll provide much-needed financial support to help talented individuals start an exciting career pathway that begins at the University of Toronto campus and leads to a data center campus.”
