In a marked demonstration of Malaysian Government’s ongoing commitment to its rapidly developing digital infrastructure, the country’s Prime Minister, The Honourable YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim graciously met with senior executives from Yondr in London at a roundtable event last week. The meeting was also attended by Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Zafrul Aziz and other Honourable members of the Malaysian Delegation, highlighting support for Yondr’s expanding presence in the country’s growing digital ecosystem.
Jointly organized by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE), the meeting comes at a crucial time as Malaysia consolidates its position as a leading data center hub in Southeast Asia.
During the session, Paul Dillon, Yondr’s Chief Development Officer, and Aksel Vansten, APAC Development Director, briefed the delegation on the development progress of Yondr’s 300MW IT load campus in Johor’s Sedenak Tech Park (STeP-1) and the company’s expansion plans in Malaysia.
“It was a fantastic opportunity to address the Honourable representatives of Malaysia’s Government”, said Dillon. “We updated them on the success of the first phase of our Johor project, which is ahead of schedule and expected to complete later this year.”
Following the energisation of its state-of-the-art 275kV high-voltage substation in March 2024, Yondr has also secured over $900 million in debt financing for the Johor project. The significance of this development extends beyond Malaysia’s borders, as the facility is set to become Southeast Asia’s largest hyperscale data centre campus.
Aksel Vansten, APAC Development Director commented: “Our meeting with the Honourable Prime Minister has further strengthened our long-term commitment to expansion in Malaysia through continuous delivery of state-of-the-art projects that will meet the region’s growing digital infrastructure needs. We would like to thank MITI and MIDA once again for the invaluable support given to our project to date, their kind invitation and facilitation of the meeting.”
