Global Investment Summit highlights Yondr’s role in the UK’s AI ambition

Yondr Group, a global leader, developer, owner operator and service provider of hyperscale data centers, was one of the handpicked delegates to the UK Government’s recent Global Investment Summit, highlighting the importance of the sector to the UK economy, along with the significance of Yondr’s investment in its Slough data center campus.

Yondr’s CEO, Paul Cossell, was amongst the prominent CEOs and investors from around the world invited to join UK prime minister, Rishi Sunak, and other government ministers to celebrate £29.5bn of investment in the UK’s most innovative sectors, including data centers and AI. Yondr was mentioned specifically during presentations to delegates, which included speeches by Mr Sunak and secretary of state for business and trade, Kemi Badenoch, along with various panel discussions and breakout sessions.

Just 200 CEOs from around the world were invited to the summit, which was held at Hampton Court Palace, and followed by a reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by His Majesty the King. The morning session included panel discussions with speakers as diverse as Stephen Schwarzman, chairman, CEO and co-founder of Blackstone, and composer, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber. In the afternoon, chancellor, Jeremy Hunt, was joined by global influencers from around the world, including UAE deputy prime minister and businessman Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and JP Morgan Chase & Co CEO, Jamie Dimon.

The summit focused on the critical factors that make the UK an attractive investment proposition for global businesses, including the potential for data center development and the country’s AI ambitions, showcased during the AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park in November. Key themes included the UK’s financial stability, robust legal system, talent, creativity and outstanding education provision, which includes four of the world’s top ten institutions in the QS World University Rankings.

Paul Cossell commented: “It was an honour to be invited to the Global Investment Summit, and our seat at the table at this high-level global event highlights Yondr’s status as an emerging force in the global data center sector. It was a fantastic forum to showcase the importance of our 100MW Slough data center project; a £1 billion investment in the infrastructure needed to help the UK achieve its ambition to become an AI superpower, which will generate an estimated 3,500 jobs.

“The summit was also the ideal chance to connect with influencers from around the world, outlining our commitment to rapid data center delivery and industry-leading resilience to support the AI boom. I also had the opportunity to talk to the King about the work we’re doing to make data centers more environmentally responsible, setting out sustainability goals that will ensure our approach aligns the world’s tech and commercial requirements with the urgent need to protect the planet.”

Yondr’s invitation to the Global Investment Summit comes as the company continues to make progress on its data center campus in Slough. Works on the second 30MW building are underway, with an initial completion date in 2024. Once all phases have completed, the campus will deliver 100MW of capacity.

The reflections of panellists at the event align with Yondr’s core proposition of stability and predictability, reiterating the value of the company’s track record of on time delivery and data center resilience.
