LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va., — November 18, 2024 – Yondr Group, a leading global developer, owner and operator of hyperscale data centers, has completed its first 48MW data center in Loudoun County, Northern Virginia, in partnership with JK Land Holdings, LLC (JKLH).
Yondr has delivered the completed data center within two years of breaking ground in 2022. The milestone marks completion of phase one of a project that will initially involve two buildings providing 96MW of critical cloud capacity. A further 240MW of capacity is already in the pipeline for an adjacent land parcel as part of the same Yondr campus. Completion of the first 48MW data center is therefore a critical first step for the company in delivering a total capacity of 336MW on its Loudoun County campus, which, once completed will see Yondr make a major contribution to one of the world’s largest data center markets.
The Loudoun County project once again underlines Yondr’s commitment to sustainability in the data center sector and the company’s expertise in delivering environmentally responsible hyperscale assets. The project’s closed loop cooling design ensures minimal reliance on local water supplies, continuing Yondr’s innovative approach to delivering on its target of achieving net zero scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 2030.
The news continues a busy year for Yondr, as the company progresses with projects in North America, EMEA and APAC. Works on the second Northern Virginia facility, the German data center in Frankfurt and the Johor project in Malaysia are advancing at pace. Yondr also completed the first data center at its 100MW+ London campus in July, with a second building on the same campus currently under construction, and a third approved by the planning authority, commencing this year.
Chad Stanley, Senior Construction Director for the Americas commented: “Northern Virginia is a critical data center hub, not just for America but globally. With this handover we have delivered the first tranche of capacity for phase one of our 96MW two-building campus.
“We have also proved that delivering capacity quickly and sustainably is not just possible, but fundamental to our project design and delivery process. We are specialists in hyperscale data center projects, providing environmentally progressive built assets in strategic locations to deliver reliable, resilient and urgently needed capacity for our clients.”
Yondr has teamed up with the NOVA Educational Foundation and Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) to create five new scholarships for NOVA students enrolled in Engineering Technology or Data Center Operations (DCO) programmes. The scholarships will train students to fill the growing number of workforce vacancies in data center and engineering careers.
“We are not just delivering data center capacity here in Northern Virginia” added Dana Nelson, Yondr’s VP of Data Center Operations, Americas, “but a legacy for the local area too, with job creation, talent development and sustainability all embedded in the project. Yondr is proud to support this community, ensuring Northern Virginia continues to thrive as a hub of innovation and opportunity.”
